Generator Installation

Generator Installation

Generators serve as a backup source of power when the electricity supply from your hydro goes down. These generators generally come handy outside urban areas where restoring power supply sometimes takes time. It is also a must for homes that needs 24/7 power and loss of power would cause significant disruption.
There are generally 2 types of generators for home use that have been listed below;
a. Gas Generator: These generators generate electricity based on gas. It can be connected to the gas line coming in from your gas company and as such, very convenient.
b. Diesel Generator: These generators generate power by burning diesel fuel. If you install this generator, you need to plan for ongoing supply of diesel fuel, especially if you have to run the generator for a longer period of time.

Generator installation requires specific skills and equipment. The key piece of equipment is called a transfer switch. This device allows you to safely switch from hydro power to the generator and back. If not installed properly, then, it could result in no power to your panel or power from 2 sources coming to the panel which causes a conflict and a potential panel overload situation.
