Knob & Tube Wiring Replacement

If you own a home that was built between 1900’s and 1940’s and the electrical hasn’t been completely redone, then, you may know about knob and tube wiring. This wiring method is no longer used and you may be surprised that some insurance companies will not insure homes or renew coverage with this type of wiring as it is considered high risk. You may even have to replace the complete wiring of your home to obtain coverage or to renew.

In addition, the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), has published an article on this topic that you can read by clicking here.

If you look through your ceiling or wiring, if you see electrical wiring like that, then, you know you have knob and tube wiring.

Unfortunately, such wiring will have to be completely replaced, which means that the entire wiring of your home and most devices will have to be replaced. Depending on how the existing wiring has been run, there may also be damages to your drywall etc. as the old wring is removed and new ones installed.
