Service and Panel Upgrade

Service and Panel Upgrade

Service and panel upgrade are generally only required when your current service capacity from the hydro company is unable to meet your existing or immediate future consumption needs. Usually happens when you add significant additional load like a pool, or a hot tub, or an EV Charger, or finish your basement that consumes a lot of power, or convert a single home to multiple dwelling units, etc. Generally, older homes come with 100 amp hydro capacity, though newer homes are now built with 200 amp during initial construction itself and 100 amp may not be enough to power all the additional load you add on. This is when you need to upgrade your service from 100 amp to say 125 amp or 200 amp or more based on your need and what the hydro company can deliver to your home. Usually, when you upgrade your service, you will also need to upgrade your panel so that the panel can handle the load coming in. E.g, if you upgrade from 100 amp to 200 amp, you will need a 200 amp panel to handle the load, the 100 amp panel cannot handle the 200 amp load.

As part of our service and panel upgrade service, we take it on as a turnkey project and deal with the hydro company and Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) on your behalf thereby further saving you time, effort and stress.

It might be helpful for you to know that a service and panel upgrade costs far less than replacing your roof, window or your heating/cooling units.
